Just today I was walking down the street and there was this old drunk ass motherfucker and his buddy standing out in front of a grocery store. The old guy wasn't so much standing as barely awake in his piss and shit stained clothes while his obviously heroin addict buddy talked to him. The old guy was ranting about Blacks, and Latinos, and anyone else he just thought fucked up his life.

I walk by, just minding my own business on my way to catch the transit, and dude yells at me, "What the fuck you looking at?!"

I yell back, "Nothing shithead." Now, normally I wouldn't bother, but you know what, drunk old assholes in San Francisco are starting to piss me off. They get in your grill, get offended and mean when you don't want to give them change, yell nasty evil shit at you, threaten people and are generally just annoying as hell.

Then I just keep on walking. You see, the advantage of being a healthy adult male is that I can actually walk away from a drunk old asshole and don't have to give a shit about him or his fucking opinions. He of course started calling me every racist thing he could think up, even though I'm not Black, Latino, or Asian. I just kept on walking.

You see, as long as nobody is hurting anyone, I'm totally allowed to tell some dude who calls me a name to fuck the hell off and get out of my face. I don't have the right to hurt him, but I sure as hell have the right to assert my displeasure at his fucked choice of words and then walk away.

In the real world, I can unfollow anyone who is causing me grief with a giant middle finger and there ain't shit they can do about it. Of course, it's probably best to reserve this right for as few people as possible, but you are allowed. It's also probably best to be civil at first, but you know what, some days motherfuckers just piss you off.

This is also why I like Twitter. In IRC people feel like they have some fucking right to free speech and run at the mouth and eat up your time. They use this implied to right to say whatever they want to troll this shit out of people. If they run the IRC channel they use that power to boot anyone they want. IRC fucking sucks because of this.

But twitter is like real life. I'm in control of my social connections to people and if they treat twitter like IRC, like they got some right to rant @zedshaw for hours on end without making a point and being drama queens or obviously trolling, then I can just block them. Just walk away.

I don't do this too often, and I try to actually answer people and debate, but holy crap if you just keep going in circles making the same fucking claims over and over, then I'm just assuming you're fucking with me or a goddamned fucking retard who can't read.

People, Twitter is my life not yours. You totally have a right to free speech, but you don't have a single fucking right to shove your free speech in mine or anyone else's face. If I don't like talking to you, then fuck you, I'm allowed to walk the fuck away from you and I definitely expect you to do the same to me.

That's right, if you don't like what I have to say then unfollow me and block me. Feel free to do it and tell me why you think I'm a dick at the same time. Exert that right to stop following people who annoy you, and do it to more people other than me.

Hell, I think if people actually started blocking everyone spewing rhetoric and bullshit the way they say I do we'd start having a real conversation and I wouldn't feel like I have to shovel out an equivalent metric assload of horse dung to counteract the bullshit everyone else is slinging.
